OUR SCHOOL:
Established in 1984, The Richmond Montessori Children’s House is an independently owned and operated school located in a park like setting just minutes from every where in Richmond, British Columbia. Our location is peaceful and secluded with a large shaded backyard, a nature walk to the south of us and horse boarding stables to the north.
We offer the traditional core program – language, practical life exercises, sensorial, mathematics and cultural studies as well as the opportunity to learn Mandarin, French, science, music, art and movement.
Learning reaches beyond our classrooms with a variety of monthly field trips which expand the children’s life experiences and provide topics for exciting discussion and exploration.A classroom of Montessori children is a joy to observe. Exhibiting pride and confidence in their work, an overriding spirit of respect, love and cooperation seems to inhabit each child.
Each September as many as 80 children begin or continue a year brimming with possibility. Accompanied by 4 qualified Montessori/ECE guides the children set out on their learning adventure.
OUR ENVIRONMENT:
As our site is off in quiet rural Richmond, the year’s passing is noted in the myriad of garden and yard activities in which the children can partake. These include leaf raking and bulb planting in the fall, bird feeding in the winter, garden preparation and planting in the spring and harvesting of the fruits of our labor in the summer and fall.
Our school is a dedicated site that honours the kind of environment every child is entitled to have. While our classes generally occur indoors, the outdoor patios are frequently used for carpentry work, gross motor activities like car washing and tire washing, and of course art and science projects. We feel that spending time outdoors is as important for the child as the wonderful Montessori environment found indoors. The former nurtures the soul while the latter stimulates the creative mind.
OUR TEACHERS:
Our talented and versatile teachers are all educated in the Montessori philosophy, coming from various Montessori disciplines, AMS, AMI, St. Nicholas, Western Montessori, Progressive Montessori. In combination with their other training and skills they bring their 4 to 27 years of experience with children to the classroom.
